What: Since 2019, Loudoun County residents have watched their elected school board fail to fulfill their duties in accordance with the Virginia Constitution, Virginia state law, and the Loudoun County School Board Code of Conduct. Their actions have become destructive to the ends of providing Loudoun County students with an educational program of the highest quality through their failure to fully re-open schools and their commitment to implement divisive critical race theory to indoctrinate children with a morally bankrupt and racist ideology.
On May 8, 2021, Fight for Schools officially kicked off its school board recall campaign as well over a thousand motivated Loudoun County residents came out to sign petitions.
This effort is not about political party or ideology; it is about exercising our rights as citizens to stand up for the future of our children. Democrats, Independents, and Republicans have joined our cause and we will fight all day, every day until we make a change.
How: Virginia Code section 24.2-233 states in pertinent part: “Upon petition, a circuit court may remove from office any elected officer or officer who has been appointed to fill an elective office, residing within the jurisdiction of the court … [f]or neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties when that neglect of duty, misuse of office, or incompetence in the performance of duties has a material adverse effect upon the conduct of the office.”
Section 24.2-233 further states: “The petition must be signed by a number of registered voters who reside within the jurisdiction of the officer equal to ten percent of the total number of votes cast at the last election for the office that the officer holds.”
In order to file the recall petition in the circuit court, we need to gather the following number of signatures for the six school board members we are seeking to remove. Note that the goals are higher to protect against challenges to signatures from the school board in the court proceeding.
